The Project Manager / Senior Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful completion of large-scale fiber optic network projects, specifically focusing on constructing long haul routes. These roles involve managing all aspects of the project including scope, material, labor schedules, budget, and stakeholder communications. While both positions share core responsibilities, the Senior Project Manager will additionally provide strategic oversight, mentor junior staff, and manage more complex or higher-stakes projects.

Key Accountabilities
- Project Planning and Execution
- Project Manager: Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget. Coordinate and oversee project execution to ensure adherence to plans and standards.
- Senior Project Manager: Provide strategic direction and oversight for multiple, high-complexity projects. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and optimize project delivery.
- Budget and Resource Management
- Project Manager: Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure projects stay within financial constraints. Direct and coordinate with field staff to allocate and manage resources effectively.
- Senior Project Manager: Oversee financial performance across assigned projects, ensuring cost control and efficient resource utilization. Develop and manage project strategy.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Project Manager: Act as the main point of contact for internal project stakeholders, providing regular updates on progress, risks, and issues. Facilitate communication between internal teams and external contractors. Schedule and lead update meetings to identify project issues and risks.
- Senior Project Manager: Manage high-level stakeholder relationships and communication strategies. Address complex or sensitive issues and escalate as necessary.
- Quality Control and Compliance
- Project Manager: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate and lead inspections and resolve quality issues.
- Senior Project Manager: Establish and enforce quality control processes across assigned projects. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Risk Management
- Project Manager: Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and address issues as they arise to minimize impact on project goals.
- Senior Project Manager: Develop and implement risk management frameworks for assigned projects. Proactively manage and mitigate risks at a strategic level.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Project Manager: Assemble and lead project teams, providing direction, support, and motivation. Ensure team members are clear on their roles and responsibilities.
- Senior Project Manager: Mentor and develop junior project managers and team members. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Participate in hiring process and decisions for junior level staff.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Project Manager: Maintain accurate project documentation, including plans, reports, and change orders. Prepare and present project status reports.
- Senior Project Manager: Maintain documentation and reporting for assigned projects. Provide high-level reports and insights to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Education
- Project Manager: Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
- Senior Project Manager: Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. PMP or equivalent certification is highly preferred. Advanced certifications or an advanced degree is a plus.
- Experience
- Project Manager: 3-7 years of experience in project management, or 10+ years in field construction, with a focus on large-scale telecommunications, fiber optic, or utility projects. Experience managing outside utility construction preferred.
- Senior Project Manager: 8-15 years of experience in project management, including a track record of success in managing telecom, construction, or utility projects. Experience in a senior or leadership role is highly desired.
- Skills
- Project Manager: Strong project management and organizational skills. Proficiency in project management software and tools. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Senior Project Manager: Advanced project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects. Strong leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in advanced project management tools and techniques.
Work Environment
- This role will involve periodic site visits to construction locations, which may include various weather conditions and working on-site.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate project timelines and stakeholder needs.
